OVERVIEW
YNYSYGERWN Sports & Social Club is celebrating it's 170th anniversary this year since Local landowner John Dillwyn Llewellyn formed Ynysygerwn Cricket Club back in 1847. We have played continuously on the same ground since that date and we are one of the oldest existing cricket clubs in South Wales.
The Club is the sole owner of the whole area having bought the property freehold in the early fifties when the "Ynysygerwn Estate" was put up for sale by the family of Venerables Llewellyn of Penllegaer with whom we had a long and friendly association.
Since the inception of our village club we have produced and are associated with numerous players that have reached the top echelons of the game in both Cricket & Football. Most notably, Alwyn Harris, Lawrence Williams, Mark Davies, Adrian Shaw, Stuart Phelps, and Andrew Davies served Glamorgan County Cricket Club and in Mark's case both Glamorgan and Gloucestershire County Cricket Clubs for many years. Both Lawrence (1969) and Adrian (1997) played in County Championship winning teams. Additionally, the current Club President, Ben Davies, formerly of Swansea City Football Club and currently playing for Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premiership played Cricket for Ynysygerwn throughout his Junior years.
Ynysygerwn has always attracted a large travelling support from the vicinity of the village and the general area of Neath itself. Over the years the club rose steadily through what was the South Wales and Monmouthshire League, now known as the South Wales Cricket Association, until in 1973 promotion was gained to the 1st Division. There we remained until the formation in 2009 of the South Wales Premier Cricket League when we became founding members and where we have remained for the last seven seasons as one of the leading Cricket teams in South Wales.
During our history the club has had the honour of lifting the South Wales Cricket Association Dan Radcliffe First Division Cup on seven occasions, The Welsh Cricket Association Cup has been won on five occasions, the South Wales Cricket Association Knockout Cup once, and more recently the South Wales Premier Cricket Twenty20 Cup.
The club has always prided itself on a strong and successful Junior section where we play in the South Wales Junior Cricket League across a number of age groups. We devote a number of evenings each week for different age groups who are coached by our three qualified coaches, headed up by our Junior Organiser Sean Evans who is supported by the Club's Head Coach Darren Thomas, former Glamorgan Player and current Wales U15 & Minor Counties Head Coach & Mark Davies, former Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, and 7-time Captain of Ynysygerwn Cricket Club.
The club has hosted many touring sides from Australia, New Zealand, the West Indies and Southern Africa, possibly the most notable visitors being the Soweto Cricket team, which played at Ynys in July 1995.
NATIONAL VILLAGE CUP - LORDS 1979 & 1986
For many years we had the pleasure of playing in the "Village Cricket Championship Cup" of Great Britain and the years of 1979 and 1986 we had the privilege of playing in the final at Lords, the home of cricket, alas we were beaten finalists on both occasions however these remain standout dates in the club’s history.

TOUR TO AUSTRALIA & THE FAR EAST JANUARY 1991
In 1991 we decided on making a landmark tour to Australia and the Far East, visiting many of the Australian touring sides that we had played and developed long lasting relationships over the years. This was an incredible experience for all involved and one that will not be forgotten.

Tour Party Photo taken at the legendary Melbourne Cricket Ground (M.C.G).
